Abstract
Objective: This research analyzes the depiction of human ethical responsibility in environmental interactions within the documentaries Madarkoshi and Korbal.
Research Methodology: The study adopts a semiotic approach, employing archival data and media documents. Pierce’s semiotic framework—comprising symbols, indexes, and icons—was used for analysis.
Findings: The documentaries highlight ethical themes such as drought crises, deforestation, and air pollution through symbolic and indexical representations. These visual elements underscore the environmental challenges and the necessity for ecosystem restoration and care.
Discussion and Conclusion: The analysis underscores the critical role of environmental ethics at both governance and public levels. Filmmakers effectively use semiotic elements to convey ethical concepts, aligning with the visual nature of the documentary medium.
