Thematic Analysis of the Concept of Love for the Creator in Aronofsky's Film Mother Based on Augustine's Ethics

Abstract
Augustine, as one of the prominent figures in the field of Christian thought, has been the focus of thinkers. His ideas are based on Christian faith and rooted in belief in the one God. One of the important teachings under Augustine's theism is the concept of love. Augustine considers love as a concept that encompasses the highest manifestation of faith and pious belief. Based on his beliefs, components can be categorized under the concept of love, including: desire for attainment, voluntary movement towards love, good living, forgiveness of love, goal: union of lover and beloved, and degrees of love. Since Western cinema has made numerous films with the concept of love, one of the most prominent recent films, Mother! Directed by Darren Aronofsky, which has received less attention from the perspective of the concept of love, can be examined based on Augustine's teachings. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to analyze the film Mother! Based on the components derived by the researcher from Augustine's views. For this purpose, using the thematic analysis method, the relationship of three important and influential characters in the film, namely Mother, Man, and Woman, is obtained in tables according to this research method, and it is concluded that in the film Mother!, the three main characters of the film approach but are distant from the Christian concept of love from Augustine's perspective.
